Summer Art Camp at the Range Creative Art Center

- Click here to print out info and registration form -

Teachers will be: Ann Schnortz, Joyce Guentzel, Tom Massich, JoAnn Wirkkula with special visits from Terry Maciej! (***See disclaimer below***)

Student will make a Lewis and Clark expedition into the imaginative worlds of art and the many media that are now available.  Many projects will get their start on Monday and work will be ongoing during the week to complete projects by Friday of each week.

On Monday, September 8th we will have an art showing of projects completed during the two weeks of camp.  The display will be up for one week and taken down the following Monday, September 15th.  This display will be in front of Maciej Art and Frame., at the Iron Gate Mall.   We guarantee 2 weeks of imaginative creations.

Week One we will enter the ancient world of mask making.  Yes, Monsters Ink  is the modern version, but bring your own ideas and construct a mask that will be a delightful wall decoration or you will be ready for Halloween early this year.

Next we will draw  & plan an oil painting for our room.  Bat Man will be our model, but if there is something else you have your heart set on, then bring your plan or picture, and we will help you out.

Scratchboard is an exciting media too.  Begin with a drawing of your favorite dinosaur from Jurassic Park and go back to a jungle unknown to man.  Scratch your way into the jungle.  Explore & record, where no man has been before.  Imagination will bring your scratchboard to life before your eyes.

Then what about the human element?  Is drawing a human face, after all this imagination,  going to be a piece of cake?  The pastel world is soft with color, but not without intrigue.  Solve the mystery of drawing the human face.

Then last but not least is the piñata.  Of Spanish origin, it will liven up any party it attends.  Come with an idea so you can get right to work.

Week Two.  Students attending camp will recreate Disneyland’s cartoon characters.  If you have a picture or book of your favorite characters, bring it to class with you.  Together we will draw our favorite cartoon characters.

Clay has a history that exists in every culture.  We will be sculptures for a few days as we delve into the secrets of clay.  A Star Wars character bank is what we were thinking of, but if there is something special you have in mind, then bring your plan and we will pull it out of our clay.

Stamp making and printing, almost a lost art but popular in the craft world.  Do you choose a design? Character? Words?  Make your own stamping design.  Just carve it into the stamp media and begin printing your own stationary, cards or placemats.  Sponge Bob Square Pants or any other of your favorite characters can be carved and printed.

Want to be a general of an origami fleet of Star Wars ships?  They can really fly and all that’s left is a paint job.  Do you know the emblems on space ships?  This could require some research before camp.  You can take the original approach too.

Watercolor painting is like magic?  “Finding Nemo” Create your own under water adventure including Nemo, his friends and the colorful coral reefs.

Construct a castle just like the one in Harry Potter, or design your own!  What will it be, a hiding place or maybe a bank?  You be the architect.

***The context/content of above movies and/or stories will not be included in artistic instruction. But some diversified, world cultural subject matter will be included in the instruction. And always feel free to choose/request an alternate subject matter.***

Art is learned!  Come, explore, learn and enjoy the wonder of ART!
