Origami Mobiles / 1 Session / Saturday / January 28th, 2012 / 1:00 to 3:00 pm / Grades 4-6
LORI THOMPSON & ERIN JUIDICI will be your instructors. All materials are provided. Learn the art of paper folding. Paper cranes will be created using authentic origami paper specially designed for intricate folds. Colorful mobile will be assembled with cranes.

Faux Glass Sculpture / 1 Session / Saturday / February 18th, 2012 / 1:00 to 3:00 pm / Grades 2-6

Techniques in Watercolor Landscapes with Terry Maciej / 3 Sessions / Wednesdays / February 8th, 15th, & 22nd, 2012 / 6:30 to 9:30 pm
TERRY MACIEJ will be your instructor. This watercolor class will consist of instructions for beginners as well as for those more advanced. The main focus will be on small parts of a landscape painting and of the individual needs of each student.
Materials list: Water container; Assortment of watercolor brushes such as: a Rigger, 1/2" flat, #2 Round, #8 Round, 1" Flat or #12-14 Round, Wash brush; (inexpensive) Plastic palette; 1 sheet of good quality watercolor paper - preferably 140# or heavier, cold pressed;
Basic 12 tube or pan set of watercolors (or bring whatever you have).For more information you may call Terry at Maciej Art & Frame (218-263-8712) during the hours of 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Advanced Landscape Pastel Workshop with Alberta Marana / 2 Sessions / Saturday & Sunday / March 24th & 25th, 2012 / Noon to 5:00 pm (Sat) & 1:00 to 4:00 pm (Sun)
ALBERTA MARANA will be your instructor. Alberta is an exceptional artist with a long list of honors, education and ties to the Iron Range. Learn techniques she uses in pastel landscapes to capture its emotional presence. Demos will be done each day. A follow-up session from noon to 5:00 pm on April 28 is included in the workshop for the experience of feedback and critiquing your pieces.
Materials list: a 9x12" pad of Wallis sanded paper, a set of Rembrandt or Nupastel half sticks, plus additional pastels: bottle green and spruce blue are necessary. All available through Dick Blick on the internet (see the links below). A drawing board, masking tape, cheap 3" hardware paint brush and odorless mineral spirits (to be used as a wash) with a small jar to put the mineral spirits in need to be included. Bring photos of your favorite scenes to be used as reference material. Also, a small electric hair / blow dryer.

Surreal Still Life Oil Painting Workshop with Wendy Rouse / 2 Sessions / Saturday & Sunday / October 6th & 7th, 2012 / Times TBA
WENDY ROUSE will be your instructor. Expand your subject matter and oil painting technique in Surreal Still Life Oil Painting. Wendy will demonstrate an old master way of painting called the wipeout technique or the Venetian technique and show how a still life is assembled and lit with a single light source. Participants in the workshop will discover how ordinary objects can take on different meanings when lit with a light and placed in an unusual setting. The instructor will make sure every one has lots of time to paint and enjoy individual instruction. This is a class for individuals who have some oil painting experience.

Classes may be arranged through your local Girl Scout Office to meet badge requirements. Costs and scheduling will depend on Art Center schedules and badge material requirements. Check your guidebook for dates, times and fees.
Request your media and subject and we will furnish an instructor. Cost dependent on materials involved.
